Waterford CT
Settled in the late 1600's and incorporated in 1801, Waterford is located on
Long Island Sound and was originally a part of New London. The city was an
important fishing port and farming area.
Sonalyst Studios, originally a defense contractor with close ties to the
submarine industry, was one of the first in the region to adapt to non-defense
work by establishing hi-tech audio and video recording facilities. This
state-of-art facility provided some of the most special effects in the movie
Hunt for Red October.
Waterford boasts the Eugene O'Neill Center where playwrights gather annually to
perform their works, and the Summer Music series at the historic Harkness
Memorial State Park. The grounds of Harkness are a favorite spot for picnics and
for viewing seasonal colors. Crystal Mall, one of the largest shopping malls in
the region, features anchor stores such as Macy's and J.C. Penney along with
numerous specialty shops and boutiques. Waterford is only a short drive from
Foxwoods
Casino, the Mohegan Sun Resort, Hartford and New Haven.
